This intensive course introduces students to the fundamentals of black and white imagery: shooting, developing & printing.
The morning of Day 1 is spent learning about the properties of B&W film, tonality & filter use. After lunch we will go out and shoot in a varied urban environment and then return to class to develop our film.
Day 2 is spent in the darkroom. After orientation, students will make a contact sheet of their film. We will examine the contact sheets and discuss the qualities of a good image. Students will then create their own prints, learning some darkroom tricks to give their images that extra punch.
All materials (film, chemicals, paper) are included in the course fee but students must provide their own 35mm film camera (SLR preferred but a point-and-shoot can also be used). Lunch is not included. Students are welcome to remain at delirium during the lunch break.
